Selecting The Right Toy For Your Child This Christmas

I think before we had sooo many choices in Toys for Christmas shopping was just a lot easier.  You could get the little red wagon, a new simple bike, some clothes, a baby doll and playhouse or maybe a BB gun.

Today Christmas Toys is a huge market and there are thousands of choices.  Unless you are really internet savvy it is hard to know exactly what to buy that your child will like and that you can afford.

Here are a few things to consider when selecting toys for your child.

• Is it right for your child's age - Most manufacturers of toys provide a recommended age group which will help but I think you also have to know your child and where they are in their learning process.  They may just be 18 months but may be advanced enough to take on a toy that is recommended for 2 years and up.  Take time to read customer review because many parents have reported that their 8 year old really enjoys playing with a game or toy that was bought for their 5 year old brother or sister.
• Is it safe for your child - All toys are supposedly safe for child's play but I think you once again have to consider your child.  Does your child chew on everything?  Well maybe you want to be careful which set of wooden blocks you buy so they won't get splinters in their mouth.  Maybe your child wants a ride on toy but the area where you live and he or she would have to ride is really just too close to a busy highway, then maybe you can find something else that will make your child happy for this year.  The other thing is that you might check if there have been any product recalls before you purchase just to be extra safe.
• Do you need to get at least one or two educational toys -  There are many word games, math games and electronics project kits that are very educational, yet lots of fun.  Once again check the manufacturer's recommended ages and also take into consideration your child's skill set before you buy.  There are many of these type games that are good family games that the adults can play with the kids without being bored themselves.  A lot of the word games are really good for the elderly and the handicapped as well.  Plus these type toys make nice stocking stuffers and Angel Tree gifts.

Every kid today seems to want electronics, electronics, electronics and there is nothing wrong with many of the electronic toys, games and gadgets, but try to mix in some other things under your Christmas tree as well.  Try to spread their focus and enlarge their view to make them well rounded in life.

Don't overspend.  Christmas will come again and there will still be plenty of Toys for Christmas again next year.

Gift Giving Doesn't Have To Be Expensive

Everyone is always searching for a gift idea for someone that doesn't cost too much that they can give to a lot of people on their list.
 
For so many people just being remembered by someone during the Christmas season makes them happier than what the gift is that they receive.  This applies to not only the elderly but to others in your daily life like the postal worker that delivers you mail, those that pick up your garbage, the babysitter, your pastor and so on.

When you want to say thank you for being a part of my life to so many people it can really become expensive.  So, it is hard to find a holiday gift that doesn't seem too cheap;  yet you can fit into your budget.

I have found that homemade fudge or cookies fills this need pretty well.  It is something that can be done fairly inexpensively and something that most people will like.  And, it seems to do the trick for filling the bill of saying  " I'm thinking about you with fondness at this time of year".
